Confident Mama Doula Care

Meet Lisa

I’m Lisa Johnson, and I’ve lived in the Miami, Oklahoma area my entire life. I’m married to the smartest, funniest, sexiest man I’ve ever met (sorry girls, Mr. Perfect is taken!), and he’s been my “life doula” for over 30 years and counting. Between my three amazing daughters and seven grandchildren (so far), I’ve been involved with and assisting in childbirth for more years than I care to admit… .but I finally did formal training with DONA international in 2014. Since then, I’ve continued with my passion for helping both new and experienced mothers achieve the most satisfying, rewarding, and peaceful pregnancies and births possible, with a strong emphasis on family involvement and self-sufficiency. I love learning (online classes are my addiction), and I equally enjoy passing on that knowledge to anyone who wants it, whether it’s the wealth of benefits of herbal medicine for family use, what makes the perfect caramel macchiato, or walking in faith. My faith is the most important thing to me, and being a follower of Jesus and staying active in my church community is a part of my life that I wouldn’t have any other way. It’s through all these things that I’m buoyed up with the confidence and commitment to be the best doula and friend that I can be, and ignite that confidence in a mother and her family to enjoy the pregnancy process and all the joy and wonder that comes with it.

From the Husband...

Lisa is not one to tout herself or her abilities to others—so I will have to do it for her. As the love of my life for over 33 years, I know better than anyone the heart of service that beats in Lisa, instilled there by her parents and growing in strength every day. She’s smarter than I’ll ever be, and yet she chose home and children over a career or the personal “success” the world strives for. But still, she doesn’t call it sacrifice, because her belief is that there was no higher calling for that period in her life. Some years ago, I was quietly watching her when a thought came to me out of nowhere… “She will be like a mother to many.” And it was only after she began supporting and encouraging young women in this process that I fully understood what it meant. In her heart of hearts, Lisa is a mom—with the full, old-fashioned meaning of the word. One who brings knowledge; one who brings comfort, peace, and that perfect, calming touch when it is needed most. And it’s been one of the greatest joys of my life to see her give of herself and be like a mother to many.
